Abstract :
While all equipment in a cement plant is important, perhaps none is more so than the process fans. Most of the applications involve high temperatures and particulate matter and thus rigorous equipment is required for the service expectations. As well, the high horsepower requirements mean that efficiency needs to be a concern to keep energy bills down as low as is practical. This paper discusses the technology involved with fans. Fundamentals and the basics of design are presented along with the predominant problems experienced by cement plant fans. The paper concludes with a brief case study of a flawed fan retrofit and the lessons learned that will assist others in ensuring that objectives of reliability and performance optimization are met
