  • Abstract
The prospect of delivering high-quality broadcast content over the Internet relies on the promise of presenting end-users with the minimum quality of viewing experience. Quality of Experience (QoE) represents the perceived performance at the end-users in terms of resource utilization, error control, and delivery latency. Among the considered performance measures, error control typically represents the biggest challenge to achieve the minimum required QoE at the end-users. Furthermore, as the end-users that are subscribed to the same IPTV multicast session observe varying, and oftentimes independent, packet loss characteristics, it becomes a major challenge to provide all the end-users with the desired QoE under limited network resources available for the IPTV service. Consequently, system scalability and network stability become the major issues that can significantly limit the accessibility of the IPTV service. In this paper, we address the error recovery problem for the IPTV networks by proposing a performance evaluation framework which can be used to develop resource efficient error control techniques.
