Abstract :
The technique which has been presented in [1] for the analysis of inhomogeneously filled waveguides is extended to the case of inhomogeneously filled cavity resonators. Resonant frequency and field configuration of the different resonant modes are shown to correspond to the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors, respectively, of a real symmetrical matrix eigenvalue problem. The matrix elements are calculated in terms of the resonant modes of the corresponding empty cavity. The accuracy of this method is validated by analyzing cases, for which the exact solution is available. The method inherently saves CPU time, if a large number of resonant modes is to be determined.
