Abstract
RF shielding properties of low cost building-materials can be calculated from data available from the literature. To increase shielding effectiveness of buildings, wire grids imbedded in glass substrates and metal coated windows have to be placed in the outside walls. Metal coated windows with two or more silver coatings will give best RF shielding properties, provided special attention has been given to optical performance. Careful attention must be paid to the choice of substrate oxides. which serve as optical antireflection coatings and base layers for the metallic films. A simple transmission test setup has been realised which is adequate for measuring the RF shielding effectiveness of samples of building-materials. Theoretical and experimental data are in good agreement.
