Abstract
In this paper, we propose an intermediate between the MTF and interval source coding schemes, which makes explicit use of alphabetical ordering as well as of symbol frequencies. The proposed scheme encodes the number of symbols that have appeared since the last previous occurrence of the current symbol, but counts only those symbols that are alphabetically bigger than the current symbol. The proposed method is capable of removing data redundancy due to symbols occurrence order.
