Abstract
The paper discusses recent advances in Integrated Optics signal processing extremely attractive to reduce hardware complexity problems on-board next generations of communication satellites. Critical repeater components of a modern communication satellite are first identified; next, their Integrated Optics implementation is presented and discussed, outlining advantages and drawbacks and expected timescale for technology maturity.
