Abstract
Several writer-editors at Los Alamos National Laboratory saw a need for better communication about the risk that attends many of the activities at the Laboratory. They developed the goals of educating themselves, educating their fellow writer-editors, and improving support for the technical staff in the area of risk communication. To educate themselves, each member of the committee read a book on risk communication, prepared a book review, and presented the review to the other members of the group. To educate fellow writer-editors, they produced tip sheets - short, educational papers, each on a single aspect of risk communication. Topics for tip sheets include the definition of risk communication, overcoming barriers to communication, outrage factors, and making risk comparisons
