            Abstract :
The impact of ring-resonator filters on optical signals and system performance is investigated. Pulse-shape distortions and system penalties induced by a single-ring and a double-ring filter are calculated and measured. The filter cascadability, in the presence of detuning and birefringence too, is theoretically investigated. Experimental results on the system Q-factor and BER measurements carried out on optical communication NRZ systems at 2.5 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s are reported and discussed.
