Abstract :
Flexibility and self-reliance provide the technical communicator with creative opportunities in work environments that are in the midst of being restructured. Acts of collaboration across organizational boundaries (both within and without) are occurring more frequently. Using personal experience and a survey of professional communicators, the authors provide insight to successful collaboration, the personal and professional characteristics of an effective collaborator, and techniques to improve collaborative efforts
