Abstract
This paper proposes a modified Boost converter topology which can supply DC as well as AC loads simultaneously. This topology is realized by replacing the controlled switch of a conventional Boost converter with a voltage source inverter (VSI) bridge network. The duty cycle of the Boost converter, in this case, is controlled by the shoot-through period of any particular inverter leg. The proposed topology is immune to EMI induced misgating-on of complementary switches of each VSI leg. A PWM control strategy for this converter is presented. The advantages and limitations of the converter are also discussed. The proposed approach can be easily extended to higher order boost converters (e.g., quadratic boost) in order to achieve higher gains. Experimental and simulation results are provided to verify the operation of the converter.
