            Abstract :
The use of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission system for radio access to an ATM network is discussed. A time division duplex (TDD) frame structure is analyzed and described considering different division multiple access (DMA) techniques. For the uplink TDMA is used while for the downlink a TDMA as well as FDMA is taken into account. Theoretical results are presented with respect to the relative throughput of the considered systems. Additionally, the concept for a non-collision medium access control (MAC) protocol, a radio automatic repeat request (ARQ) and a handover protocol is presented for this application
