Abstract
The authors present an investigation of the influence of nonuniform charge distribution over the electrode surface on the electrode area dependent average delay time of breakdown using a multifractal model. The dependence of the average delay time of breakdown on the electrode area and the average field stress. In large inter-electrode gaps the electric strength strongly depends on the weak sites distribution over the dielectric bulk. The proposed model can only be applied to describe the breakdown in large bulk dielectrics
