Abstract :
TETRA is a good example of a widespread, commercial communications system that can be adopted by many different subscriber communities. However, the means by which protective security measures are implemented for different communities depends in part upon the sensitivity of that community´s traffic. For high-security users, such as the military, measures such as higher-grade encryption are required. In the efficient exploitation of what is essentially off-the-shelf low-grade equipment for such communities, an applique-based approach has necessarily been taken. The implications of this, in terms of impacting performance and potential application, are addressed. The challenges to better support integrated developments in the future are discussed
