  • Abstract
Real-time control of road traffic flows by means of dynamic traffic management requires continuous traffic monitoring. The performance of conventional traffic monitoring systems using induction loop detectors can be substantially enhanced by incorporating probe vehicles. An important aspect for the choice between distinct integration alternatives is mobile communication. This paper discusses objectives and requirements for the design of a combined probe vehicle/induction loop monitoring system for dynamic traffic management
