Abstract :
Examines the capability of an architecture based on a metropolitan area network (MAN) to support voice and signaling traffic in a personal communication system environment. For that purpose expressions for the traffic circulating in the MAN and for the load supported by each network element are obtained. Metrics such as the system coverage area, number of cells and busy hour call attempts were calculated. The impact of dividing the MAN coverage area in several location and paging areas is also studied
