Abstract :
An attempt has been made to gain a better understanding of the formation of electrical charge appearing within oil circulating inside a rectangular pressboard channel. Experiments confirm that the charge accumulated on the surface of the pressboard does not limit the process of charge generation. It is concluded that the roughness of the surface and its nonhomogeneity are factors that must be taken into account in order to explain the high-energy level of the discharges occurring in power transformers
