Application of software engineering and quality assurance to expert systems development

A description is given of required controls and procedures for expert systems in order for the system to be developed efficiently, cost effectively and with high quality. Two of the most important characteristics of software development are the concepts of software engineering and quality assurance. Both software engineering and quality assurance influence how the job is accomplished, but the former determines the procedures used and the latter structures the reviews and audits of those procedures. The relationships between software engineering, quality assurance, and expert systems are also discussed
