  • Abstract
Excitation codebooks built around a set of basis vectors have spurred the development of high quality speech coders for mobile communications. The basic excitation search procedure of the code-excited linear predictive coder (CELP) is presented. The singular vector (SV) representation of the filter and the excitation is introduced. Thereby, a non-iterative excitation search procedure is defined. The proposed singular-vector-excited linear predictive (SVELP) coder is built around two adaptive codebooks, namely, the SV codebook and a standard lagged excitation adaptive codebook. Preliminary results evidence the potential of SVELP for mobile as well as multimedia communications
