Abstract
The MAC layer of IEEE 802.11 standard for WLAN uses CSMA/CA protocol with binary exponential backoff. The protocol adopts a contention window with fixed minimum window size, leading to a low utilization level of channel resource. In this paper, we propose an adaptive binary exponential backoff scheme. Using this scheme the node dynamically adjust contention window according to the probability of successful transmitting. Analysis and simulation results show that compared to the traditional backoff scheme, the proposed adaptive binary exponential backoff scheme outperforms in terms of average network throughput and end-to-end delay.
