Abstract :
Geometrically uniform trellis codes based on L×UQPSK (multidimensional unbalanced quaternary PSK) constellations obtained as a result of an extensive search are presented. The codes use signal sets with 1⩽L⩽4, and are able to transmit information rates in bits per two dimensions Reff ranging from 1 to 1.67. The codes obtained improve up to 1.25 dB over the asymptotic performances of the best codes known so far based on balanced L×QPSK constellations. The codes performance in terms of error event probability are also presented
