Abstract
Since 1989 Siemens has been participating in ATM field trials in Europe, North America and Japan. The strategies for ATM deployment in different countries are diverse reflecting different markets and regulatory conditions and the network architectures chosen by the network operators for their ATM field trials employ quite different sets of network elements. Siemens has developed a flexible, generic system architecture which can be used to meet the requirements derived from all these various network architectures. We present this system architecture and show how it is applied in the world´s ATM field trials intended to lead to a B-ISDN
