Abstract
A fiber optic connection system designed specifically to meet automotive requirements is presented. Application requirements are defined, potential solutions are reviewed, and a connection system designed to meet these requirements is presented. The design considerations discussed include fiber selection, electrooptical device packaging, optical receiver selection, light-emitting diode (LED) device selection, fiber alignment and termination, harness and vehicle assembly, and environmental compatibility
