Summary form only for tutorial. This paper is a powerpoint presentation of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network design by modelling WDM terrestrial and submarine links. It presents some examples where theoretical tools have been fruitful at 40 Gbit/s as well as for dispersion management at 10 Gbit/s.
