Abstract :
Explosion risk exists in many processes for manufacturing and handling of combustible materials. It is a continuous hazard to industrial processes. The impacts of fire and explosion may be severe in terms of death and injury to people, damage to physical property, and effects on the environment. Safe design of process control is an important part of risk management. Process control is widely applied in the field of explosion prevention and protection. The application of process control in sequence control and interlock, process monitoring and control, risk signal monitoring and safety protection, explosion suppression and isolation were introduced. Two case investigations of accidents because of process control design deficiency in chemical industry were presented. Clear status indication, reliable interlock and redundancy design of process control design were emphasized.
