Abstract
Opensource Opencourseware Prototype System (OOPS) is a grassroots effort to translate Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) OpenCourseware (OCW) for the Chinese populations. This paper provides informative insights into how the project has evolved in both its technology infrastructure and human capital, the challenges this self-organized, volunteer-based project is facing, and future plans for long-term sustainability and development. OOPS offers a low-cost model to break the language barriers and provides a way for knowledge consumers to take proactive roles in becoming knowledge producers while experiencing knowledge the OOPS way.
