Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. The authors report a new electron beam extraction system using metal barrier films, which show a better performance compared to conventional metal foil extraction system in terms of electron beam transparency and mechanical strength. The experimental results carried out using several metallic and non-metallic foils are presented. The electron beam transparency of the aluminum barrier film is 78%, whereas that of 12 /spl mu/m aluminum foil is 45%. The improved power density that can be transported through the new window enhances the electrical efficiency of the electron gun up to 58.7% (from 33%). NO/sub x/ removal experiments have also conducted. The influences of electron beam energy, shot numbers and initial concentration of NO/sub x/ are discussed.
