Abstract
Frequency Selective Surface which is a wireless counterpart of an electrical filter in microwave frequency range has been a subject of extensive studies for the last few decades. These structures exhibit the filtering property using pass band and reflection band phenomenon unlike the electrical filters that use the pass band and attenuation band phenomenon. This property of FSS has attracted the engineers and scientists to use it in the high end microwave communication system. The efforts of the engineers and scientists during last few decades have resulted in the implementation of this technology in the antenna system of satellites; high gain ground based antennas and in the ground based radomes. The versatility of the FSS is such that it may find application in home kitchen as a shielding in the door of microwave oven even in its simplest form. The versatility and the promising applications of the FSS technology have fuelled the research and development tremendously in this field. Many versatile designs have been developed during the last few decades and that includes and not limited to, narrow band FSS, broadband FSS, compact FSS and also polarization independent FSS.
