Abstract
The authors address the problem of estimating a multipath channel response characterized by time delays and amplitudes. The data for the problem are a noisy received waveform which consists of scaled and delayed replicas of a known transmitted signal. The problem of estimating the unknown parameters is posed as a convolution problem. A simple approach which just solves a set of linear equations is proposed for this deconvolution. The approach makes use of the special structure of the impulse response of the channel. It yields a better estimation of the channel response than the iterative method of projection onto convex sets (POCS). The connection between the proposed and the POCS method is shown. The problem that occurs when the time delays are not integer multiples of the sampling interval, which is often the case in practice, is addressed.<>
