Abstract
This paper deals with implementation of an Improved Prony algorithm, based on median filter, in estimating the low frequency modes of power system oscillations. The signal used for estimating the modes are the power signal obtained from phasor measurement units (PMUs). The comparison of the proposed method has been carried out with conventional Prony based method on a synthetic test signal at different noise levels. Estimation of modes for a 2-area system, using the proposed method, is also carried out in the present work.
