Abstract :
This paper investigates the effect of installing series fault current limiters (FCL) on angular stability, voltage stability, as well as fault current mitigation. A resistive type (R-Type) HTS-FCL, and a magnetic HTS-FCL (MFCL) are modeled in time domain using PSCAD/EMTDC and tested in a single machine to infinite bus test system. To evaluate the performance of these FCLs they are compared with conventional series current limiting reactor SCLR. Machine´s internal voltage, rotor speed, and current are monitored for all cases. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of HTS-FCL among other FCLs in boosting stator voltage and improving angular stability.
