  • Abstract
A slotted Aloha based modified channel access strategy for highly unreliable channels is proposed and investigated. It requires all mobile stations to estimate the link quality before starting a transmission. Transmissions are postponed when the link quality is poor. The performance of this modification is evaluated using a hybrid simulation tool. Measured channel data are included. The most important result is that slotted Aloha can be significantly improved when the users make use of information about the link quality. Then, slotted-Aloha outperforms collision-free multiple-access protocols
