  • Abstract
    OTDR in the S-, C- and L-bands shows that amplified Rayleigh scattering echoes are more important than double Rayleigh scattering for return losses above -60 dB in forward pumping configurations. Gain depletion can give rise to 2 dB OTDR errors at high gain.
