Abstract
The acquisition, management and analysis of mineral resources with both simplicity and efficiency are critical problems we are now confronted with. This paper discusses the related conceptions and technologies about GIS and how to apply it to the field of mineral exploration with its advantages. Later this paper promotes itself with a case of Lao Zhai-wan Gold Mine, Yun Nan Province, China, describing the whole process of constructing a Mineral Exploration Data Management System (MEDMS) and developing the corresponding theme GIS, the designed purpose of which is to manage the mineral exploration data efficiently. The result shows that the most important step of constructing a Mineral Exploration Data Management System (MEDMS) is the build of data model and spatial database which directly have impact on spatial query, statistics and analysis of the mineral exploration data.
