  • Abstract
Synthesizers for generation of stabilized frequency signals are required in communications, sensing, and many other fields and applications. In this paper, A dual loop ultra wideband synthesizer is proposed and implemented for a wideband software defined system. The designed synthesizer can operate in the frequency range from 2 GHz to 16 GHz with the output power more than 16 dBm and with spurs less than 50 dBc. The frequency step is 1.25 MHz for the frequency range of 2~4 GHz, 2.5 MHz from frequency range of 4~8 GHz and 5 MHz from frequency range of 8~16GHz. The phase noise is better than -80 dBc/Hz @10 kHz and -110 dBc/Hz @100 kHz. The synthesizer is software configurable through self-developed graphical user interface based on micro controller unit (MCU).
