  • Abstract
The shape of the compressed pulse strongly depends on the input conditions, as input pulsewidth and peak power, and on the fibre parameters, as chromatic dispersion and non-linear coefficient. An analytical model of the higher order soliton compressor which allows the description the compressor behaviour for different types of fiber in the presence of amplitude noise and pulsewidth variation is developed. With this model, evolution of the output noise statistics can be studied. The analysis of a Gaussian input noise reveals its rapid deterioration of compressed pulses for input signal to noise ratio lower than 40 dB and the distribution of the output noise remains Gaussian.
