Abstract :
In this work, we propose a simple model to understand the mechanisms within the BitTorrent protocol that are responsible for driving the system into high levels of AM. Using the model, we investigate the influence that system parameters have on the emergence AM. In particular, we show that the "optimistic unchoke" mechanism of BitTorrent plays a major role in this process.
