Abstract
We propose a line voltage harmonic compensator for the distribution line voltage distortion and the nonlinear load harmonic current by using a simple shunt active filter with series inductances. The instantaneous terminal voltages of the common supply line are controlled to the sinusoidal waveforms by the instantaneous compensation current. The system does not have the constant voltage control functions to minimize the power capacity of the PWM converter and the series inductances. In the paper, we describe the basic principle of the control method, the control system of the single phase and three phase compensator. Then, we show the operating waveforms from simulation and experimental results for both cases of the source voltage distortion and the nonlinear load current separately or simultaneously
