Abstract
A low cost distributed environment for process instrumentation and control is presented, which is implemented by extending a general purpose system simulator called DYNASIM. The extension mainly comprises development of a wide range of remote terminal units (RTUs), integrated around a low cost multi-drop network, called JUINET. Communication between independent process modules has been achieved by implementing special type RTUs called bridges. A simple and flexible hierarchy for process instrumentation and control is proposed based on the above developments
