Abstract
In this paper, an advanced static reactive power compensator is presented. This compensator employs a conventional three-leg voltage source inverter with a split-DC capacitor. In general, the split-DC-capacitor structure provides a suitable connecting point to the main supply neutral wire. The proposed advanced static reactive power compensator is capable of supplying both balanced and unbalanced reactive power demands. An independent current hysteresis controller is used in-each leg of the inverter. These controllers would force the inverter to directly generate the required reactive currents. The simple current hysteresis controller would insure a reliable inverter operation with minimal harmonic distortion. The, proposed system is studied using a simple mathematical model. Also, a laboratory model of the system is tested. The presented system is tested under unbalanced reactive power demands. Mathematical and experimental simulation results confirm a promising advanced static reactive very power compensator
