  • Abstract
Initial results obtained from a study of multipath propagation at 55GHz in a heavily built up urban mobile radio environment are presented. Statistical analysis of the results show a near Rayleigh distribution when the mobile receiver is distant from the transmitter, with significant deviations from Rayleigh when the reciever is near the transmitter, and line of sight transmission is possible. The power spectra obtained for the urban environment show a far greater high frequency component than power spectra obtained in an "open countryside" environment where propagation is less nultipath dependent. Initial results are very promising and indicate that millimetre wavelength cellular radio is a worthwhile area of study for future mobile communication systems.
