Abstract :
The paradigm of microgrids has been developed to accommodate distributed generation and reduce the control burden on utility networks, especially during network disturbances. The design, development and analysis of microgrids - either continuously operating in isolation from utility networks or as an extension to existing power supply structures - demand accurate dynamic models of the distributed generators. This paper describes generic dynamic models of photovoltaic, battery storage and solid oxide fuel cells, which can be used in the analysis of their dynamic behavior and stability studies as part of the network development process. The dynamic models are developed using the commercial simulation software PSS®NETOMAC and PSS®SINCAL to investigate the capability of microgrids in providing a reliable power supply under different operating conditions of the power system. The models are simulated in different control modes to evaluate their dynamic response and the effectiveness of the control strategies developed. The modeling process is also discussed.
