Abstract :
There are needs for products with nano-scale, 10´s to 100´s of nanometer tolerances. Examples include optical fiber interconnects of various types, and MEMS packages. This talk presents means to address these needs. nanoPrecision Products (nPP) has identified need to develop an ultra-high precision manufacturing capability for metal forming which can achieve nanometer tolerances with high repeatability and very low cost. This process will specifically address the affordability and reliability of connectors and packaging for components widely utilized in both DoD and commercial applications. The current connector manufacturing and assembly processes have resulted in very high priced electrical, fiber optic, microwave and millimeter wave connectors for use in military/aerospace environments. Most of the current packages and assembly processes used for semiconductor, electro-optic, microwave and millimeter wave components are not hermetic and pose reliability issues when applied to severe environment military systems. nPP´s unique manufacturing processes provides products manufactured in both low and high volume at low cost. The precision tolerances achievable with these processes changes design rules and will dramatically impact assembly & system costs.
