Abstract :
Correlation-Optical Time Domain Reflectometry is a method that can be well adapted to short length testing of optical fibers at high resolution. In this paper, 1m resolution has been demonstrated for 100μm-200μm MMF but has assumed that Correlation-OTDR technology for SMF having up to 4cm resolution also can be modified for testing MMF with similar results. Rayleigh scattering and thus point attenuation can be located with higher resolution (2m) compared with SMF up to more than 1000m distance. Point reflection can be located in lossy optical links (30-50dB budget). These results favour Correlation-OTDR being applied not only in certain SMF-applications. Also MMF-testing of fiber as typically used in avionic vessels becomes possible.
