Abstract
This paper deals with the influences of the major losses in motors, i.e., iron loss, mechanical loss, and stray loss on permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. In the first phase, the influence of the iron loss on the flux linkage under vector control condition is investigated. Amplitude and direction errors of flux linkage when the iron loss is neglected are derived and evaluated based on a developed mathematical model. In the second phase, the influences of all the losses on the electromagnetic torque under vector control condition is investigated. Torque generation ratios that all the losses are neglected are evaluated. Experimental results for torque control of PMSM demonstrate the validity of the analytical results
