Abstract
Surveys the research in transmitting power control (TPC) in CDMA cellular systems with an emphasis on the aspects of power controller design. First of all, some basic theories of power control are reviewed from the point of view of communication. Then the TPC problem is put in the standard framework of a control process, and quantities in TPC are treated as control system components. Most of the available control strategies are then reviewed, and the focus is put on the step size design of the power controller. Finally future research directions for TPC are suggested.
