Abstract :
SDA stands as a synonym for "Switchable Direction Amplifier". For such an amplifier the direction of amplification is controlled by the polarity of the applied DC voltages. The same principle may be extended to build active mixers of switchable direction (SDMs). Therefore it is possible to operate a complete receiver front-end, consisting of an RF-amplifier, mixer and IF-amplifier, as a transmitter by reversing the polarity of the supply voltage. The basics of such amplifiers and some experimental results are presented.
