Abstract :
Despite an increasing demand and popularity in the global mobile market, there is still a lot of development work to be done to improve the limitations of mobile devices and network bandwidth. Currently mobile phones provide many useful capabilities such as touch screen, voice dialing, speakerphone, intelligent typing, high capacity camera, Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as high-end features like GPS Navigation. It is obvious that the more advanced features included to the mobile phones, their price would be higher. This paper attempts to provide a new application named as “Fake Location” to enable GPS Navigation on mobile phones at an affordable price for users. Our application enhances both the link layer and the network layer handovers using Fake Location´s information driven from the mobile phone´s Cell Tower. Currently, GPS application development has a large number of limitations with regard to inefficiency in supporting the indoor positioning of mobile phones. Fake Location uses text files obtained from Cell Tower to simulate the functionalities of a GPS receiver. The motivation behind this research is to fulfill the need for mobile phone users of any model to utilize the profound benefits of applying GPS in order to make an instant identification of the location of mobile phone users. Moreover, the tracking function is also provided to capture the motion from one point to another point via Google Map.
