Abstract
The pattern information (PI) method was reasonably modified and firstly introduced to the observation data processing of electromagnetic satellite in this paper. Taking the moderate-strong earthquakes as examples, the IAP data recorded by the France DEMETER electromagnetic satellite were systematically processed with the modified PI method. We can find that the variation in non-seismic regions and at non-seismic periods are not obvious and have almost no useful information, but the abnormal variations of IAP parameters in the ionosphere with regularity and significance appeared before moderate-strong earthquakes, which shows that the electromagnetic satellite may observe precursory abnormal variation before some moderate-strong earthquakes. Only the slight variation were submerged in a strong background trends, and high-resolution methods are necessary to effectively identify and deeply excavate this information. What´s more, we proved that the modified PI method with integration capabilities of long trends and short variations effectively eliminated the background trends of electromagnetic satellite data and also highlighted good short-term variations. Therefore, it is thought that the modified PI method to IAP data processing is effective and itself specific modification measurements are also feasible, reasonable and successful.
