Abstract :
A description is given of the main quality assurance procedures carried out during the hardware development of the TROPICO fully digital switching system. Some key elements are a hardware design handbook, ana electronic design quality assurance group, reliability analysis, and design reviews. Component selection and testing also play a significant role. Several automated tools that have improved the development process, are described as are testability analysis and board testing steps. Good overall results have been obtained from field operation of TROPICO exchanges with real traffic.<>
