Abstract
The optimization of the roll profiles of the work rolls in the finishing stands of a hot rolling mill train is to be automated with an IT-system. This paper gives a short introduction to the problems of optimizing the work rolls and presents a possible approach using computational intelligence methods. These methods are neural networks and genetic algorithms. It is believed that this approach could be used in a wide range of combinatorial optimization problems of technical systems
